2014 Iowa Whitetail Classic

I am forwarding this information for Lori Hansen. Lori is spearheading the push to legalize tracking wounded deer with a leashed dog in Iowa. This has been an ongoing saga for about 5 years in Iowa. The initial petition was unanimously approved and recommended for legalization until the most recently elected Governor, Govenor Branstad decided to change the process of rule change through the petition process. It was bad timing and since then has become bogged down, and a challenge to get the elected legislators to move this through, and legalize what the overwhelming amount of Iowan’s want. I want to thank Lori Hansen for all her hard work. I also want to thank Larry Gohlke and Cheri Faust for representing the United Blood Trackers and manning the booth at the 2014 Iowa Classic. Don’t forget to stop by the United Blood Trackers booth at this year’s Iowa Deer Classic (February 28 – March 2nd) to sign our petition! If you can’t make the Classic and want to be included, please email me at lori@hansenhounds.com. All it needs to say is I, your name, your city/state, support tracking shot deer with leashed tracking dogs. Feel free to ask your friends to support this cause by signing the petition or emailing me too!

After we collect signatures, the petition with signatures and emails received will be submitted to the Director of the Iowa DNR.

We are ready to move forward!

Winter Day 2014

Echo tunneling through the snow

Echo tunneling through the snow

Today the temperature finally got out of the single digits.  I decided to get Echo outside and enjoy the February snow. It has been a tough winter with the loss of my other dog Scout. It will take some time for me to get used to not having her with us when we venture outside. We recently bred Echo to Vimy, and are hoping for a healthy litter in a couple of months. I will know in about 30 days if the breeding took. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Echo will whelp a female pup that will share some of Scout’s qualities that I miss so much. We will see. Until then I am very grateful that I have Echo.
