Fall is upon us and the tracking season is in full swing. It has been a busy season for us, and a while since I posted anything. I plan to get in the deerstand soon. I’m hoping for a mature buck.
I’ve recently gotten several pictures of some successful tracks. Two of the pups pictured are from the F-Litter (Jimmy Dean and Jen). They are young (4.5 months) and this is their first season. The picture of Jen also includes another young pup named Ray. He came from a different kennel than ours. Ellie Mae from Missouri is from the E-Litter. She is about 1.5 years of age. I really enjoy staying in contact with the owners and hearing how the dogs are doing.
Good luck to everyone this season!
The last three F-Litter pups have been picked up by their new owners. The reports have been good. It sounds like they’re settling in nicely. We decided to keep one of the seven pups (Sage). Sage is doing great. She is being mentored by my older dogs Echo and Jetta. As the days and evenings start to cool off, I am looking forward to Fall, and the upcoming hunting season.
It has been a memorable experience watching the F-Litter pups grow. It is always interesting to see how their personalities and appearances develop. This litter was a good one. From the whelping until the pups headed to their new homes went very well. Jetta did an excellent job as a first time mom. The last pup (Finn) will be picked up today. We are keeping the pink collared female (Sage).
The F-Litter pups are enjoying the taste of a good deer liver. They are 6.5 weeks old. I am still teasing them with the livers. I also extend the liver a short ways away from them and hide it. I want to see the pups use their noses to find it. At this age that is what they do. They are not looking with their eyes to find it. That is what we are are after. So far I am happy with all of their progress.
The F-Litter pups turned 6 weeks old yesterday. They all had their initial vaccinations and wellness checks. All pups are healthy and doing great. They all love to be outside. They all have responded good to deer liver teasing and drags. I will continue working with them until they leave for their new homes. Here are some pictures I took outside today.
The F-Litter pups turned 5 weeks old yesterday. They continue to get more active and love being outside. I introduced them to a deer liver drag and they loved that. I have given the pups their official names.
